East of Quartzsite

East of Quartzsite

Travel day today. And a frustrating, jarring one at that.

After a very nice breakfast and short hike (not off an even shorter pier) I hitched up and set out for Salome AZ, just east of Quartzsite.

Garmin and my maps said instead of backtracking to Indio and thence to the I10, there was a shorter way. Unfortunately, most of the roads leading to the shorter way had been severely damaged by flooding and it got kind of dicey for the moho and the car in tow several times. Then we were through the damage and off on the shorter route.

Which was closed (1o miles in) due to flooding. I think. There were definitely Road Closed signs and barricades, but people kept driving by going the other way. All dry and everything. Still, prudence was called for and I decided to go back. Of course there was no place to turn around for someone of my turning radius, so I turned halfway around, unhitched, got everybody pointing the correct way (back) and re-hitched.

I stopped for fuelage at the Chiriaco Summit and also visited the General Patton Memorial Museum. Fun stuff.

Then down the I10 to my base camp for exploring all that is Quartzsite. Seemed like quite a bother as I drove by. We”ll see tomorrow.

Pictures are here.
